Error setting system updating
If the printer does not function correctly when directly hooked to a computer, the hardware may be at fault and the printer will need to be run through the self-test.
Lexmark printers do not support USB/parallel adapters and will probably not work. Our printers require either an IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel cable, or a USB v.1.0 or 2.0 A/B style cable.
A piece of software may be interfering with the printer's communication ability, or your computer may be experiencing a system resource problem.
We can try to alleviate these issues by putting your computer into Selective Startup mode.
I also have had this problem with a very large spreadsheet that just stopped updating itself over the weekend, but having checked the above solutions, setting were already set to automatic, and sheet is too big to rebuild, so I was at a loss.
My solution was to find an old version of the same excel spreadsheet which was not having thses issuesbefore I archived it, which is of similar size and complexity to the current version.
You may want to contact the manufacturer of your other device for information on the correct functioning of a pass-through device.
I changed the setting as indicated above; but the auto-recalculate still did not work, and upon rechecking the "Calculation" option, found it had reset itself back to "Manual" all by itself.
Three attempts later and it was still adamant it wanted to be "Manual" and nothing else.
Some printers can only use the parallel cable, some can use only the USB, and some can use either one.
However, Lexmark cannot support printers hooked up to computers with a cable that attempts to cross between parallel and USB platforms, as this will cause communication issues.
